Sustainable Textiles
It is important for us to not only manufacture clothing in ethical workshops, but to also source textiles that are sustainable as well. We design all our clothing with handwoven, recycled, or sustainable natural textiles.
Traditional handloomed and small mill textiles.
Many rural villages have a rich history of traditional textiles. Designing collections with these textiles not only gives us the opportunity to give more people meaningful work, but it helps preserve some of these techniques that are being forgotten. Plus, these fabrics are so lovely!
In India, we partner with a family workshop that has been handweaving fabrics for decades. Every thread is hand processed giving the cotton texture and a beautiful linen-like feel.
In Portugal, we source our wool from a small mill that has also been around for decades that uses farmer-sourced wool to weave traditional Portuguese coating wools.
What recycled fabric do you use?
A lot of our textiles are sourced from overstock and remnant cut-offs from larger factories. Because of the large number of factories in Cambodia, we are able to find really high-quality linens and poplins that would otherwise go into waste. We hand pick each one of these textiles for their drapability and quality.
Hand knit sweaters and the yarns we use...
Our sweaters are sourced from a pioneer fair trade organization in Nepal that uses their sweater production to fund free training courses and a primary school. Graduates from the program can take small batch orders and work from their homes. They source wool from the area as well as high quality mohair, cotton, and nettle alo. Our alpaca sweaters are sourced from a small cooperative in Bolivia and uses locally sourced alpaca.
