I started asking a lot of questions after living in Kenya for a summer. When shopping for clothes back in the states, I no longer just glanced at the price; I glanced at the tag to find out where something was made as well.
Our Story
I started to put faces behind the clothes...people with their own dreams, good days, bad days and children. One question led to another and I become more aware how the production of our clothing is linked to the well being of so many people.
These questions kept circling my head as I worked with small fair trade groups in India and Honduras. I realized that maybe the production of our clothing with small fair trade workshops could give women in developing countries an education which in turn could give them a source of income - finally, more ownership of their lives.
So I started caring about where my clothing came from.
As a girl with a fashion degree and a little bit of a fabric snob - I had a trouble finding clothes that I wanted to wear, but that were created with the producer in mind.
One summer I started Liz Alig as a collection of a few dresses - really an experiment to see if it was possible to make clothing completely out of recycled materials. When these dresses sold and people wanted more, I partnered with a group I had worked with in Honduras to produce 100 more dresses.
This first collaboration went on and we now partner with small fair trade groups in over 10 countries. We have produced thousands of pieces a season to boutiques and large retailers back to selling directly to you online. Our goal is the same - to make clothing that makes women feel confident (and comfortable) while giving those who make them a meaningful (and well paying) job. A large portion of the line is still produced with recycled materials, but we also incorporate handwoven and sustainable textiles.
It has been such a pleasure to know the people who sew our clothes for years - we are grateful for your support!

I sent an email, when will I get a responce?
We do our best to answer most emails with in 48 hrs. Please keep in mind we are a small business and do not generally respond over the weekend. I want to cancel an order...
You can ONLY cancel an order within the first 24 hours of placing it. We do not cancel orders after this 24 hour window especially if it is a pre-order item. We are making your item specifically for your pre-order, so we do not cancel these orders.
When will my order ship?
Is your item a pre-order item? Check the product title, it will have an expected ship date listed. It should ship within a month of this date or we will send an email with an update.
If you ordered multiple pre-order items or a pre-order with something that is in stock, they will ship together when both are ready. If you would like them to ship when available it is an additional $8.95 for shipping let us know if you want to add this to your order.
For all other orders, we are doing our absolute best to ship your order as soon as possible, but please keep in mind we are a small company and batch ship our orders. Our goal is to ship orders within a week of receiving them, but during busy times it may take up to 14 days to get to your order. Thank you for your patience!!
When will I get my order?
Orders typically take around 3-5 days to arrive once shipped. International orders typically take around 2 weeks to arrive.
When will my pre-order ship
When you purchased there is a date on the product page, this is the best estimate we have for when the product will ship; however, there can be unexpected delays in production or shipping. We absolutely do our best to ship within the month window of pre-order and will let you know if there is a change more than this.
If you ordered a pre-order item and an item we have in stock we will ship them together. If you would like the item in stock sooner, please place 2 separate orders.
My package says it was delivered, but I don't have it!
This really sucks! For both us an you because we unfortunately have no control once your package is dropped off at USPS. The first thing to do is contact your local usps, many times it will show up in a couple of days and was just delivered to a neighbor. If you have contacted your post office and waited 2 business days send an email to hey@lizalig.com.
There is a flaw with my garment
Oh no! We are so sorry!!
If it has been 15 days from your order, send us an email to hey@lizalig.com and we can help you out.
If it has been longer than 15 days, we do not accept returns on these items. (To be honest we don't know if these flaws are due to how you washed/wore something if it has been longer.)
Yes, you have to return the item that has a flaw if you would like a replacement or a refund. If your item does not match the size chart please let us know. These measurements however are meant to be +/- an inch (especially if it is a sweater or a garment with stretch).
Clothing Care
When in doubt do not use heat. In most cases machine wash cold, line dry and cool iron when needed. For specific instructions visit the product page.
Hand knit alpaca and wool pieces should be hand washed in cold water and dried flat.
Coupon Codes
Sorry, we can not accept more than one coupon code at a time.
I purchased something and it is now on sale? I'm so sorry we do not post date coupons, but we do appreciate your order placed at full price (honestly it keeps us in business).
I did not realize I ordered a pre-order item can I cancel it?
We clearly stated in the title the item you purchased was a pre-order item and the expected ship date. Because we are already in the process of making your order we do not cancel these orders. We are able to offer our clothing at such a discount because we can fund production when you pre-order and for this reason we do not cancel after 24 hours of purchase.
